Gloria Jean's Coffee Shop in the Belconnen Mall, ACT and The Tullys have joined forces to launch a new music initiative in the ACT.
Called "Coffee and Chords" the two-hour segment will feature local family band, The Tullys, from 12noon to 2pm each fortnight on stage facing the very popular coffee shop.
Next confirmed date: Mother's Day, Sunday 14 May.
Both Gloria Jean's management and The Tullys management are delighted with the arrangement and can see the initiative grow to encompass other Canberra Gloria Jean's outlets and eventually involve a range of local Canberra talent.
10/05/06: New Album
Samples of each track are now on our playlist! Feel free to download and listen...
We have just received the master disc and are looking into promotional and distribution options.
25/04/06: Mastering
We were delighted to have David Macquarie of Studios 301, Sydney, master our album.
Sought out by Richard Lush, David comes very highly recommended and we are thrilled with the results.
Our album was mastered from tape for a warmer feel.
20/03/06: Recording..!!!
We have had the best time spending most of the past couple of months workshopping, recording, and mixing our new album. Working with iconic Poducer Richard Lush exceeded our expectations - and our expectations were very high as his discography is legendary (The Beatles, Paul McCartney and Wings etc...)
Richard is not only inspirational to work with, but always good humoured, patient and very easy to get on with. We were well suited to each other's working style and work ethic.
Working at 301 was a dream for the band - terrific equipment, beautiful rooms and even a beautiful engineer (thank you, Mike!). Seriously - it's a seriously good studio. We worked up in Sydney for a week, had a short break, put down some tracks in Canberra at Infidel Studios with Richard, this time with Duncan as engineer. We had another short break and returned to 301for finishing touches and the week of mixing.
We were thrilled by Ben Hakalitz's drumming skills and style - no wonder he is considered by many to be Australia's most amazing drummer! Ben is the most wonderful, kind and warm person - he started out as Jamie's 'bro' (they met while entertaining the troops in the Solomons) but once he met the whole family he fitted into the Tully family 'village' immediately and became everyone's bro!
The overall comment we'd make is that we all worked hard to make it a not only a technically perfect project - but one that was fun and enjoyable to make.
20/02/06: Rehearsals in the Shearing Shed with Richard and Ben
Rehearsals in the Shed - Production diary almost ready to appear on line!
Great excitement as Ben Hakalitz (Yothu Yindi) flies in from Cairns to stay with us to help put our new album together. Richard Lush flew in the following day from Sydney and rehearsals began in earnest with the full team together.
10/02/06: Ben Hakalitz (Yothu Yindi) to record with The Tullys!
As we seem to have lost our drummer in Nashville (we nearly lost our second drummer there - it's a long band story, but it's funny) and no wonder, it's a great place with great people - we can't wait to go back. We needed to find a good drummer. And why not start at the top?
Jamie approached his 'bro' Yothu Yindi's exceptional drummer, Ben Hakalitz. Ben was happy to help Jamie out and we sent up our garage band recordings of proposed album tracks. Ben really loved our music and came on board enthusiastically.
05/12/05: Pre-Production...
We are currently in Pre-Production for our next album, with UberProducer Richard Lush. The band has been busy workshopping/garage banding new songs, and they can?t wait to get into the studio.
The opportunity to play these songs in Nashville was a huge bonus. As Lawson Tully can't get back to Australia right now to drum, a well-known drummer from an iconic Australian band has been approached and has agreed to drum for the new album to be recorded at 301, Sydney and Infidel in Canberra.
