Mary Marble's last litter : Tonkinese - now all 'grown up' in their forever homes
Adopted kittens are available from around 12 weeks of age, depending on the individual kitten's development.
Your new baby will also have had at at least one vaccination, have been vet checked and wormed, and even more importantly, your new kitten will be used to being loved and will return your love.
Burmese and Tonkinese are gentle, loving and yet independent cats, and I've found this inborn responsive nature is given a wonderful start by spending a lot of time being played with by my family, including my very enthusiastic 'junior handler' granddaughter, Emma, from when they're first walking.
My kittens only use Macs.... they have their own iBook... (well, maybe not!)

Dear Adoptive Parents,
Thank you for deciding to give me a great home. Maureen and her family have given this letter from me to you as a guide to the type of lifestyle I am accustomed to.
My first couple of days (and nights!) will be really scary for me, because this will be the first time I have been on my own. Unless I can sleep on the bed with someone (and try to sleep on their head!!) It would be a good idea to put me in a small room with my bedding, water, and toys and of course my litter tray.
Also, the first time you leave me by myself in the daytime, you might want to do the same thing because I could get lost in the house until I get to know my way around.
I am toilet trained but I could have a few accidents at first. I am sorry, but please forgive me. I am used to using paper litters such as Breeders Choice or the recycled telephone book types (like Coles Reliance brand and Dr Harry brand) and so I will be very comfortable with that and recognise it straight away, but I may not recognise your new type at first. Don't forget to keep my litter really clean or I may look for a new clean spot all by myself - and you and I may not agree about what makes for a nice new litter area.
I was wormed today, so I don't need worming for 12 weeks. It's a good idea to mark the calendar today so you don't forget. Maureen worms us in December, March, June and September.
I have been vaccinated (and may need to be vaccinated again for my final shot when I get desexed). From then on my vaccinations are only once per year. I may get a small lump at the site of the shot, but don't worry, this will go a way in a few days. Also sometimes, kittens like me can have a reaction to the vaccine: a fever, sleepiness, runny eyes or even 'the runs'. Just keep a close eye on me for about 10 days after the needle. Maureen prefers and recommends the F3 vaccine.
Sometimes we kittens get very stressed by being adopted, and we can feel unwell just from the fright of the move. If I don?t seem to be the same as usual, don't hesitate to take me to the vet.
I am eating two to three meals a day now. I like fresh meat - chicken and beef strips, chicken wings, chunks of heart, etc. I will also eat a small amount of premium dry kitten food if you're out all day. Maureen recommends Science Diet, Nutrience or Royal Canin, dry foods available in Canberra from Alexis at Belconnen Pet Supplies in Oatley Court. Ask Alexis for her advice re recalls and problems with some brands. I have been eating a raw diet and don't need the dry food to thrive. It's best to feed me human grade meat, as pet meat often contains huge amounts of preservatives.
I don't get fed canned food, especially fish varieties, because some kittens are allergic to them. I don't drink milk as it upsets my stomach but if you want to you can give me the Whiskas modified milk. You can also give me raw chicken wings and necks (I won't eat much but it will clean my teeth!) but please no cooked bones.
Please, please please desex me at 5 / 6 months as there are too many unwanted kittens and an early pregnancy could damage me permanently.
Please love and spoil me! I am worth it!
Love
Your new baby kitten
